The Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation will be one of the sponsors of the “Kids Athletics” program being run by the Hellenic Olympic Committee in association with the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs and the Federation of Greek Sporting Associations (SEGAS).
“Kids Athletics” is a scheme set up by the International Association of Athletics Federations to increase the popularity of classic athletics events through a program of team competitions in sprinting/running, jumping and throwing.
The activities are designed for three age groups: 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 years old. The program will start this year on a pilot basis, in the Attica region, based at the Panathenaic Stadium, and the hope is that eventually it will be rolled out across the rest of the country.
“Kids Athletics” is just one of a programme of activities and events which the Hellenic Olympic Committee is planning in order to open up the Panathenaic Stadium to the general public. The children taking part in the pilot scheme were extremely enthusiastic – and the Chairman and other members of the Olympic Committee were delighted with the success of the initiative.
